Studies to elucidate the preparation and generation process of earthquakes.

 Based upon in-situ date at the closest proximity of the hypocenter, we elucidate the preparation and generation process of earthquakes. Experimental fields are at 1 - 3.5 km depth at South African gold mines.The projects, except for those listed in this database, which I chaired, include the following:

震源の物理学、とりわけ地震発生準備過程の研究
 京大入学当時は天文学志望でしたが、データを解析するのが好きで地球物理にかわりました。天から地に落ち、今は穴にもぐっています。研究テーマは、震源の物理学、とりわけ地震発生準備過程の研究。現在は、世界で最も深い金鉱山の一番震源に近いところで震源を研究しています。関東地方の観測データを使い、静岡沖など常に危険状態であることを立証した結果は博士論文となりました。南アフリカ金鉱山の地下3千mでの半制御地震発生実験では、震源過程の至近観測を国際的に行っています。ストーブなどを消した時、発生する音の消滅するまでと余震の変化を描く図式の類似に着目した余震メカニズム解明も現在の仕事の一つ。兵庫県生野鉱山の立坑に地震計を沈め、地下水と断層強度・誘発地震の研究もしています。
