Systems and Control Theory and its Applications
In the contemporary society, as element technology evolves, the systems targeted by a lot of engineering issues have become increasingly large and complicated, and requirement for realized performance and features has also become stricter. In order to control and operate these large and complicated systems safely and efficiently, it is essential to build mathematical techniques of system modeling and control design, based on mathematical models. Under these backgrounds, our laboratory conducts a wide range of studies and education concerning the system control theory and its application. Main subjects of researches are as follows:
(1) Distributed Cooperative Control and Estimation of Multi-agent Systems
Large-scale systems are composed of a number of agents connected via networks. The examples include smart grids, sensor networks, vehicle formations, etc. The distributed cooperative control and estimation of multi-agent systems aim to achieve cooperative tasks, such as synchronization, consensus, and load balancing, by controlling the individual agents in an autonomous and distributed manner. We are conducting the research on cooperative control and estimation methodologies for networked multi-agent systems from the perspective of robust and optimal control.
(2) Control Systems with Input/Output Constraints
For actual control design, there exist constraints on the amplitude or change rate of input and output signals of the system due to physical properties of hardware, security of safety and other reasons. At this time, the system's operating area should be expanded to the upper limitation in order to achieve good control performance. In order to make control performance reach its full potential as well as staying within the limitations, this research studies: designing the control design method openly taking limitations into consideration; and applying the method to the actual system.
(3) Behavioral Approach to System and Control Theory
We study an approach of the system theory from a new perspective that characterizes the system with collection of signal orbit not traditional I/O mapping. This behavior approach can identify the essential structure of control systems, and is expected to evolve from the new perspective for robust control, distributed control and other practical control techniques.
