1.	Involvement of microglia in various tissue responses during brain ischemia

Research summary
Involvement of microglia in various tissue responses during brain ischemia Recently, it is revealed that neuronal remodeling and appearance of ischemia-induced multipotent stem cells: iSCs are occurred after the brain ischemia. These facts suggest that ischemic brain tissue shows the active and various reactions for recovery, not just wait for the cell death, however it is difficult to repair injury tissue of ischemic brain completely. My questions are “How does ischemic brain attempt to repair?” and “Why does not repair of ischemic brain succeed completely?” I expect that a key factor of these two questions is microglia. Microglia, the brain resident immune cells, exert diverse and even sometimes opposite effects on the process of brain ischemia by production of inflammatory mediators and neurotrophic factors, phagocytosis, and synaptic pruning etc. So, microglia play important roles in pathogenesis and amelioration of brain ischemia. I want to reveal the detail of microglial functions in the ischemic brain.
