Research summary
Legislators’ Attributes, Behavior and Representation I study the words and actions of legislators in relation to their attributes and representation. One of the prominent factors to explain the words and actions of legislators is institution, including the electoral system. However, institutional factors cannot explain the differences among legislators under the same system. My research examines how the personal attributes of legislators, such as local tie and belonging to a political dynasty, are related to their words and actions. I also examine what kinds of people are represented by these attributes and by their words and actions. Although there are many dimensions of representation, my research to date has focused specifically on geographic representation.
