Research summary
I am engaged in "Disaster Mitigation Designing for Historic Cities" focusing on sustainable (Environment) and safe (Disaster Mitigation) design methodologies for cities and regions (Design). I am mainly focusing on cultural heritages to be passed on the next generation and disaster mitigation planning & design for surrounding historic cities with traditional knowledge and community activity. 　My main research subject is the interdisciplinary area that covers preservation of cultural heritage and urban disaster prevention that have been handled separately so far. I'm engaged in designing safe and beautiful cities and regions based on the research. I will be mainly engaged in the research on Global COE "Cultural Heritage Disaster Mitigation". I will be engaged in my research by participating in various projects to practically contribute to the society. These projects include "Development of Environment Protection and Water Supply Project in the Areas Adjacent to Kiyomizu" that is now at the implementation phase as a Kyoto City project, formulation of "Disaster Prevention Plan through the Citizens' Participation" for groups for historic buildings, the extraction of "Traditional Wisdom of Disaster Risk Reduction" from the historical point of view and evaluation of its effectivity in modern times, and so on. I will be engaged in a series of problem-solving research together with the administration and citizens. This research process is as follows: Field survey both in and outside Japan -> Extraction of the inherent social problems -> Consideration through classification and analysis -> Derivation of the basic policies to solve the problems -> Integration as a concrete draft plan -> Evaluation of the results by the citizens and administration
