Research summary
Drama therapy practice and application methods corresponding with various objects, places and purposes
Drama therapy is one of the expressive art therapies. It is defined by the North American Drama Therapy Association (NADTA) as follows: "The purposes of the drama therapy is to conduct treatment to ease symptoms, promote integration of emotion and body, and achieve individual growth by intentionally using the process and result of drama and theater. The drama therapy is a behavioral and empirical approach and to exploit the following abilities: -- A client talks about himself/herself. solves his/her problem, makes his/her goal, gets catharsis, deepens and widens his/her internal experience, improve his/her human relationship, and strengthen the power to play his/her role while increasing flexibility in various roles in his/her life. --
The activity areas (clients) of the drama therapists of the NADTA include medical care (chronic psychosis, eating disorder, PTSD, the patients treated by psychiatry, and care of a terminally ill patient, etc.), welfare (persons with developmental disorder, elderly persons with diseases including dementia, abused persons, demobilized soldiers, convicts, etc.) and education fields and the drama therapy can be applied not only to treatment of disease but to various persons for the wide purposes. I have been considering the application methods so that this therapy can be useful for ordinary persons not only in clinical fields but in the needs of the modern society from the viewpoint of active mental health and prevention of diseases Furthermore, I establish an education method focusing on the improvement of cultivating self-expression ability, practice my teachings and sessions devised to acquire a communication skill as well as a human relation skill not only in the education fields but in enterprises and research the effects, etc.
