Research summary
Laboratory of Organ Engineering and Nanomedicine focuses on the molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying organ growth and regeneration in the central nervous system, particularly using tissue culture preparations to recreate organ-like structures known as human organoid systems that enable testing bioactive molecules to discover potential therapies. Dr. Takata has been involved in mentoring students with various backgrounds and he was recognized by Northwestern University's Office of Undergraduate Research for contributions to undergraduate research mentoring, Northwestern University (2025). He also contributed to strengthening US–Japan relationships through biomedical research and received the Consul-General’s Commendation from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan (2021). His research philosophy and perspectives on science were recognized with the Essay Prize in Equity, Diversity and Inclusion in Research awarded by The Company of Biologists, UK (Journal of Cell Science 135 (8): jcs260018; 2022).
