概要 Foamed waste glass (FWGs) and coconut fiber were applied as a substrate and an external carbon source for lab-scale hybrid constructed wetlands (CWs) to enhance phosphorus and nitrogen removal from synthetic anaerobically digested swine wastewater. Adsorption characteristics of the FWGs were compared with those of other typical filter materials. The hybrid CWs were configured as a continuous processing system with a vertical and a horizontal flow (HF) stage. The CWs system was operated for two months with hydraulic retention time of seven days while changes in the effluent water quality were monitored.
Results demonstrated that phosphorus adsorption capacity of FWGs were equivalent or less than that of limestone. Elution tests demonstrated that coconut fiber was sufficiently supplied carbon (>1.5 mg/g/day in COD). Removal efficiencies of TP and TN by the HF stage were approximately 71-97% and 18-56%.
